World Conference of Mayors Executive Director of International Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Yahya Sillah, has embarked on lifting the organization to higher heights by repositioning the 33-year old institution on the cardinals of international relevance.

The organization’s face on the international platform says the World Conference of Mayors Organization is transmuting rapidly into what is being laced as The United Nations of Cities. He says the WCM has reached the stage where nations’ cities must look up to the organization for guidance in advancing the cause of quality leadership in the management of cities.

The World Conference of Mayors was founded 33 years ago by one of America’s most progressive city mayors, Honorable Johnny Ford of Tuskegee, Alabama. This year, the organization embarks on its most intrepid mission in years when it launches a global landmark Conference in Detroit, Michigan in October, 2017.

The Conference, with the Theme “Sustaining Economic Growth and Development in 21st Century Cities – Detroit, the City that Never Surrendered,” is expected to attract more than 200 mayors, entrepreneurs and investors from around the globe to Detroit from October 23 -27, 2017.

The event has booked the MGM Grand Detroit as venue for the global conference. The Mayor of Detroit, Honorable Michael Duggan, released a letter dated July 17 committing the City to hosting the Conference.

“Detroit is well-prepared to host the World Conference of Mayors, and I offer our city’s full support for a successful, rewarding conference,” Mayor Dugan said in his letter.

“The World Conference of Mayors Conference in Detroit is geared to being a platform to helping city administrators develop added capacity to inspire their people to get the best out of themselves – in finance, education, commerce and health management,” Dr. Sillah said.
